The short version
There is no account. Chartix never asks for your name, email address, phone number or password, and there is nothing to sign in to. We do not know who you are.
We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and there are no third-party advertising SDKs in the app.
What does leave your device:
- the chart image you choose to analyse, sent to our servers and to Google's Gemini API so it can be read;
- the ticker or asset you look up, sent to our market-data service to fetch prices;
- a random install identifier plus crash and usage diagnostics, so we can keep the app working;
- your subscription status, handled by Apple, Google and RevenueCat.
Your scan history, the saved copies of your chart images, and your watchlist stay on your device. Deleting the app deletes all of them.
What we collect, and why
| Data | Why we need it | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Chart photos & screenshots you submit | To read the chart and produce the analysis you asked for. This is the core function of the app. | Our analysis server, and Google's Gemini API. A copy is archived on our server (see Retention). |
| Ticker symbols, asset names and searches | To return quotes, price history and written analysis for the asset you picked. | Our market-data service and our upstream market-data providers. |
| App language | So the analysis comes back written in your language. | Sent with the analysis request. |
| Install identifier — a random UUID generated on first launch | To rate-limit abuse of our servers, to group crash reports from one install, and to count users in analytics. It is not your device's advertising ID or hardware ID, and it is not linked to your identity. | Our servers, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics. |
| Crash reports & diagnostics — stack traces, OS version, device model, app version | To find and fix crashes. | Firebase Crashlytics (Google). |
| Usage analytics — which screens are opened, whether a scan succeeded, confidence level, how long it took, subscription state | To understand which features are used and where the app fails. Events describe actions, not content. | Firebase Analytics (Google). |
| Purchase & subscription status | To unlock premium features and restore purchases on a new device. | Apple App Store / Google Play billing, and RevenueCat. |
Stored only on your device
The following never leaves your phone and is not visible to us. It is held in the app's private storage and removed when you delete the app:
- your scan history and the saved image for each scan;
- your watchlist;
- your onboarding answers, chosen language, and app settings.
What we never collect
- Name, email address, phone number, postal address or password — there is no account.
- Precise or approximate location.
- Contacts, calendar, microphone, call logs or SMS.
- Your photo library. The app receives only the single image you pick, through the system picker.
- Financial account credentials, brokerage logins, portfolio balances or payment card numbers. Payment is handled entirely by Apple and Google; we never see your card details.
- Advertising identifiers for advertising purposes. Chartix shows no ads.
Device permissions
Each permission is requested only at the moment the matching feature is used, and the app remains usable if you decline — you simply lose that one entry point.
- Camera — to photograph a chart on a screen in front of you. Frames are used for the scan you take; the app does not record video or use the camera in the background.
- Photos —
iOS the system photo picker returns the one image
you select; the app does not request access to your whole library.
Android the app uses the Android Photo Picker and
deliberately does not declare
READ_MEDIA_IMAGESorREAD_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, so it has no broad media access at all. - Notifications — used only to remind you before a free trial ends. Declining costs you nothing else.
- Share sheet — if you share a chart image into Chartix from another app, that image is treated exactly like one you picked yourself.
Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers that make the app work, and only for that purpose. They process it on our instructions. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
| Provider | What it receives | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Google — Gemini API | Your chart image and the requested language. | Reads the chart and generates the analysis. |
| Google — Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics | Install identifier, crash data, usage events, device and OS details. | Crash reporting and product analytics. |
| RevenueCat, Inc. | Store receipt data and an anonymous subscriber identifier. | Subscription management and purchase restore. |
| Apple App Store / Google Play | Your purchase, under their own privacy policies. | Billing. We never receive your payment details. |
| Render, Inc. | Analysis requests. | Hosts our analysis server. |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Ticker lookups and quote requests. | Hosts our market-data service and its price cache. |
| Supabase, Inc. | Analysis result records and request metadata (the image itself is not stored here). | Stores quality and error logs used to improve accuracy. |
| Market-data providers (including Yahoo Finance and Marketstack) | The ticker symbol or search term only — no identifier, no image. | Supply prices, quotes and asset metadata. |
We may also disclose data if we are legally required to do so, or to investigate abuse of our service. If the app or the business is ever transferred to another owner, this policy travels with it and you will be told before anything changes.
How long we keep things
| Data | Retention |
|---|---|
| Chart images submitted for analysis | A copy is archived on our server for up to 12 months so we can measure and improve the accuracy of the analysis, then deleted. It is stored against a random image ID, not against you. |
| Analysis results and request metadata | Up to 24 months, for quality monitoring and debugging. |
| Market-data cache | Minutes to hours. Keyed by ticker, and contains no user data. |
| Crash reports | Per Firebase Crashlytics defaults (currently 90 days). |
| Analytics events | Per our Firebase Analytics retention setting (currently 14 months). |
| Subscription records | For as long as the subscription is active, plus the period Apple, Google and RevenueCat require for billing and tax records. |
| Anything stored on your device | Until you delete the scan, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. |
Deleting your data
On your device, right now
- Delete an individual scan from the History screen to remove it and its saved image.
- iOS Delete the app. All local data goes with it.
- Android Settings → Apps → Chartix → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
On our servers
Because there is no account, we hold nothing that identifies you by name, email or phone number, and we cannot look you up by those. Two things exist server-side:
- Records tied to your install identifier — used for rate-limiting and abuse prevention. Email us and we will erase them.
- Archived chart images and analysis results — these are stored under a random per-image ID with no link back to your installation or to you. Because nothing connects them to you, they cannot be retrieved individually; they are deleted automatically on the schedule in Retention.
To make a request, email contact@theapptor.com with the subject “Chartix data deletion request”, telling us the platform (iOS or Android) and roughly when you used the app. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days. Use the same address to ask for a copy of what we hold, to correct it, or to object to our processing.
Turning off analytics and crash reporting
- iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, and Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android Settings → Google → Ads to reset or delete your advertising ID (Chartix does not use it for advertising in any case).
- Revoke Camera or Photos access at any time in your device's system settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the personal data we hold, to object to processing, and to complain to a regulator. Exercise any of them by emailing contact@theapptor.com. We will not charge you or treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the UK, EU or EEA (UK GDPR / GDPR)
Our legal bases for processing are:
- Performance of a contract — analysing the chart you submitted, fetching the prices you asked for, and delivering your subscription.
- Legitimate interests — crash reporting, usage analytics, rate-limiting, and improving the accuracy of the analysis. We keep these pseudonymous and limited to what is needed.
- Consent — camera, photo and notification permissions, which you grant at the device level and can withdraw at any time.
You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority; in the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
If you are in California (CCPA / CPRA)
In the last 12 months we collected the categories described in “What we collect” — identifiers (a random install ID), internet and app-activity information, and the images you chose to submit — for the purposes listed there. We have not sold or shared personal information, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. You have the right to know, delete, correct, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
Children
Chartix is a financial-markets tool intended for adults. It is not directed to children, is not listed in a children's category on either store, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that threshold). If you believe a child has provided us with data, email contact@theapptor.com and we will delete it.
Security & international transfers
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit with HTTPS/TLS, and every request is signed so it cannot be forged or replayed. Server-side data is held by the providers listed above under their own security programmes, and access is limited to the people who need it to operate the app.
Our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where required, those transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
A note on what Chartix is
Chartix produces an automated, AI-generated reading of a chart image. It is provided for information and education only. It is not investment advice, not a recommendation to buy or sell anything, and not a forecast. It can be wrong. Market data may be delayed or inaccurate. Always do your own research, and consider speaking to a licensed financial adviser before making any investment decision.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data we will update this page and move the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be announced in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Chartix after a change means you accept the updated policy.
